Finding purpose within myself has always been a very challenging but transformative journey for me. Being a single mom put me in a place where I have to make things happen despite the help I get or don’t get from loved ones and friends. Here are some perspectives I had to consider:

  1. Self-Reflection: Take time to reflect on your values, passions, strengths, and the experiences that have shaped you. Understand what truly matters to you and what gives your life meaning.
  2. Acceptance: Acknowledge the adversity you’re facing. Accept that challenges are a natural part of life and can often lead to growth and new opportunities.
  3. Reframing: Try to reframe adversity as a catalyst for personal development. Consider how you can learn from the experience, become more resilient, and discover strengths you might not have recognized otherwise.
  4. Setting Meaningful Goals: Define goals that align with your values and passions. Working towards these goals can give you a sense of purpose and direction, even in the face of difficulties.
  5. Helping Others: Sometimes, finding purpose involves helping others through similar challenges. Your own experiences can be a source of inspiration and support for others.
  6. Seeking Support: Contact friends, family, mentors, or therapists for emotional support. Talking about your feelings and thoughts can provide clarity and connection.
  7. Gratitude Practice: Cultivate a habit of gratitude by focusing on the positive aspects of your life, no matter how small. This can help shift your perspective from focusing solely on adversity to recognizing the good that exists.
  8. Mindfulness and Resilience: Practice mindfulness and resilience-building techniques to stay present and manage stress. These practices can help you navigate adversity with a clearer mind.
  9. Embracing Change: Understand that your life’s path might change due to adversity, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find purpose in new directions. Embrace the potential for growth and unique experiences.
  10. Small Steps: Start with small actions that bring you joy and align with your values. Over time, these steps can accumulate into a larger sense of purpose.

Remember that finding purpose is a dynamic and evolving process. It’s okay to have moments of doubt or uncertainty, but with time and self-compassion, you can uncover a sense of purpose that empowers you to overcome adversity and lead a fulfilling life.
